David J. Shapiro

David has more than 25 years of experience litigating large, multi-party complex civil litigations. He grew up in major international and New York-based firms, where he represented corporations, high-net-worth individuals and trustees for creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.

David clerked for Eastern District Court Judge I. Leo Glasser and started his firm life at Dewey Ballantine. He spent 15 years litigating at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP, where he worked on major software implementation and bankruptcy matters, including claims against Accenture and Adelphia Communications Corp.

In 2015, he was asked by two clients to represent them full-time, including a corporation from Knoxville, TN that was in protracted litigation against IBM. Since then, David has gone on to represent a growing number of high-net-worth individuals in a variety of matters. Recent successes include:

  • A $39 million jury verdict against IBM following a software implementation failure
  • A $6.2 million summary judgment on behalf of plaintiff in a negotiable instrument action
  • Dismissal of tort claims alleging attempted murder and assault of a guest against a Caribbean resort
  • Dismissal of fraudulent conveyance claims in New York State Supreme Court.
  • Successful negotiations with the New York City’s District Attorney’s Office regarding forfeiture of antiquities
David has experience in all aspects of commercial litigation, including investigations, drafting complaints, motion practice, discovery, trial and appeals. He leverages the experience and expertise of other former "big firm” attorneys in staffing cases.

When he is not preparing for court, advising clients or spending time with his family, you can find David playing keyboards in various blues and rock bands at Manhattan’s The Bitter End, reading World War II history or biking.
